Ready for an adventure? In this A2 Petra ESL lesson, we’re going back more than 2,000 years to explore one of the world’s most fascinating ancient cities.

We’ll meet the Nabataeans, discover how Petra became an important trading centre, and find out what happened when the city slowly lost its importance. We’ll also explore its rediscovery and learn why Petra attracts so many visitors today.

But this isn’t just a history lesson! Along the way, students practise Past Simple and Past Continuous for storytelling, learn useful vocabulary connected with history and travel, and create their own stories and travel adventures.

The lesson is perfect for history fans, but also for students who enjoy travelling, exploring new places and hearing the stories behind them. It’s a great way to combine English practice with a little mystery, archaeology and adventure.
