Do you enjoy crime stories, mysterious suspects and unexpected twists? Then this English lesson is for you!
In this interactive crime mystery ESL lesson, students become detectives and investigate a mysterious case at a hotel. They read clues, examine evidence, question suspects and try to work out what really happened.
Along the way, students practise English vocabulary connected with crime, investigations and hotels, including words and expressions such as victim, discreet, grainy, to reveal, to insist, to deny and to be convinced.
The lesson also gives students plenty of opportunities to read, discuss, make deductions and explain their theories in English. Rather than simply learning vocabulary from a list, they use it to solve a mystery!
At the end, students discuss the story, the clues and the solution — and decide what they would change to make the mystery even better.
Perfect for: students who enjoy crime stories, detective films and problem-solving activities — and teachers looking for a fun way to get their students speaking English.
Happy teaching & learning!
