This ready-to-use ESL lesson helps students explore the topic of family and relationships through speaking, vocabulary, and critical thinking. Aimed at B1-level learners (however, your B2 learners will enjoy it as well), the lesson begins with a visual warm-up (picture-based conversation), followed by a vocabulary matching task on family terms (from “uncle” to “half-sister” and “generation gap”).
Learners also discover useful expressions and idioms to talk about family ties, conflicts, and staying in touch. A short reading with true/false comprehension questions helps reinforce the vocabulary in context, and the lesson wraps up with meaningful discussion questions and quotes (from sweet to sarcastic!) for deeper engagement.
Whether you’re working with groups or individuals, this lesson encourages speaking fluency, builds vocabulary, and makes room for fun, reflection, and real-life conversation.
Includes answer keys for vocabulary and reading
