Looking for a quick and engaging way to kick off your English lesson? Our space-themed “Spot the Difference” warm-up is perfect for A1–B1 students! This fun visual activity is not only a great icebreaker but also an excellent opportunity for learners to practice speaking, describing objects, using prepositions of place, and revising vocabulary related to space.
The task is simple: students compare two space-themed pictures and find 7 differences. You can use it in pairs, groups, or as a class discussion starter. It encourages active observation, descriptive language, and collaboration—perfect for building classroom energy at the start of a lesson.
💫 Why use this activity?
- Great for pair or group work
- Ideal for revising vocabulary (e.g., astronaut, spaceship, moon)
- Supports use of basic grammar (there is/are, prepositions like next to, above, behind)
- Encourages communication and interaction
Additional idea🚀
Use this worksheet as a writing exercise! First show the picture A to your students for 60-90 seconds and ask them to remember as many details as possible. After that time, hide picture A and show them picture B. Ask them to write down all the differences they can remember. Encourage full sentences. Set a time limit of 3-4 minutes. Once ready, discuss with your class what the differences were.
Whether you’re teaching online or in-person, this warm-up fits seamlessly into any lesson plan (also our space-themed News lesson 😉). Just download, print, or screen-share—and you’re ready to launch your lesson into orbit! 🚀
Heppy teaching & learning!
