Do You Really Need 10,000 Steps a Day? | B2 ESL Video Lesson

Walking is one of the most common forms of physical activity, yet many people believe that only a strict 10,000-step goal can bring health benefits. But is this popular number really based on science?

In this B2-level ESL video lesson, students watch a short TED Talk that questions common beliefs about daily step counts and physical activity. Through guided discussion, note-taking, and vocabulary work, learners explore how walking affects heart health, mental well-being, and long-term fitness.

The lesson encourages students to:

  • challenge common health myths
  • react to expert opinions
  • talk about their own habits and routines
  • use topic-specific vocabulary in a natural way

This lesson works well for adult learners and older teens, especially in classes focused on discussion, lifestyle topics, and critical thinking. It is aimed at B2 students, however, you can try it with strong B1+ students.

Happy teaching and learning!
