Online shopping vocabulary can feel abstract for A2 learners — words like delivery, dispatched, or refund are useful, but not always easy to remember. One simple way to make this language stick is to use a Taboo-style speaking game.
In this activity, students describe online shopping words without using three key “taboo” words. The game pushes learners to paraphrase, use simple definitions, and speak more confidently — all skills A2 students need.
Taboo works especially well with topics students already know from real life. Most learners shop online, wait for deliveries, look for discounts, and sometimes return items. This familiarity lowers stress and increases participation.
The activity is flexible and easy to adapt. For lower A2 groups, you can relax the rules, remove the time limit, or play as a whole class. For stronger groups, keep the taboo rules strict and turn it into a fast-paced team competition.
Used as a warmer, revision task, or fluency activity, Taboo is a practical way to recycle vocabulary and get students speaking naturally — without worksheets or long explanations.
