A Very Small Christmas Wish – An Interactive Christmas Story for A2+ ESL Students 🎄

Christmas lessons don’t have to be loud or busy to be memorable. Sometimes, the quiet ones stay with students the longest.

“A Very Small Christmas Wish” is an interactive Christmas story designed for A2+ ESL learners. The story follows Anna, who unexpectedly has to spend Christmas alone when her partner gets snowed in during a business trip. What begins as a lonely situation slowly turns into a hopeful, heart-warming Christmas miracle.

The lesson is built around five short story parts, each followed by discussion questions that encourage students to:

  • talk about feelings and reactions,
  • predict what might happen next,
  • connect the story to their own experiences.

To support comprehension and speaking, the lesson also includes:

  • a gentle Christmas warm-up discussion,
  • a vocabulary matching exercise focused on winter and emotions (e.g. snowed in, ornament, snowplough, to freeze),
  • speaking questions to practise the new words,
  • a true/false comprehension task,
  • and a final Christmas discussion section about traditions, food, memories, and dream Christmas plans.

It’s perfect if you’re looking for a cheerful but emotional Christmas activity that gets students talking — without stress or heavy grammar focus.
